ISAAC BRISCOE
Isaac Briscoe was a grocery merchant at Cove
City in Crawford County, Arkansas. He was the son of
Francis M. Briscoe and Lucy Tolle. The father, Francis
Al. Briscoe, was a school teacher by profession, and was
killed during the War of Rebellion [Civil Warl The
mother, Lucy Tolle, was of Dutch -Scotch heritage, and
was born in Lewis County, Missouri, in 1840. After the
death of Francis M. Brisco, she united in marriage, while
in the state of Texas, with Mark L. London [See the
London Sketch]. In 1868, Mark L. London brought his
wife, Lucy Tolle Briscoe London, to Crawford County,
Arkansas, where she lived until her death.
By her first marriage, Lucy Tolle Briscoe, had
two sons, William A. Briscoe and G. Isaac Briscoe, and
lived in the community ofEads [pronounced Eds], until
they were grown. William A. Briscoe was engaged in the
grocery business in Van Buren, Arkansas and G. Isaac
Briscoe was engaged in a like business at Cove City, a
small community north of Van Buren.
In his later years, mid 1890s, G. Isaac Briscoe,
oPerated a bakery in the east part of Van Buren. Some of
his descendants resided in San Antonio, Texas.
Isaac Briscoe is a charter member of the
Crawford County Historical Society.

Thomas Brown was born in Augusta, Virginia on
28 February 1753 and died in Warren CountTennessee
on 3 September 1849, at the age of ninety-six.

Thomas Brown and Nancy Davis were the
parents of William B. Brown, who died in the state of
Tennessee. William B. Brown married Jane Haswell. The
latter Browns were members of the Methodist Church, and
were also the parents of George Arch Brown who was
born in 1812, in Tennessee. George Arch Brown married
Sarah Daugherty, who was born in 1805, in Tennessee.
George Arch Brown and Sarah Daugherty had other
children, but one of them were: James Andrew born in
1832, in Tennessee and died in Ennis Texas; he married
while in Tennesse to Susan Colen Massengale. They had a
son, Samuel Andrew, born on 11 July 1864, in Tennessee
and died on 20 April 1938.
Samuel Andrew Brown married in Tennessee, on
4 July 1864, to Elizabeth "Lizzie" McNabb, who was born
on 15 March 1875, in Tennessee and died on 19 Jun 1951.
