HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION MINUTES
October 133 2022
The Van Buren I listoxic District Commission held its monthly meeting on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at 530 p.m. in the City
Council Room of the Municipal Complex. Commission members present: Vice -Chairman Derald Porter, Lindsay Dodson, Paul
Gibson, Andy Knox, and Commission Secretary Jennifer Willoughby. Commission Chair Vickie Davis and Commissioner
Cathy Gifford were absent. Also in attendance: Iain Montgomery of AHPP, Antoinette Johnson and Brian Minyard of]ohnson
Consulting, LLC.
1. Approval of Minutes
from August 11, 2022.
A motion was
made by Commissioner Paul
Gibson and seconded by
Commissioner Lindsay Dodson
to approve the minutes.
The motion was approved unanimously.
2. COA #5-2022-600 Main Street —Doomsday Coffee/Jason Collins. Jason Collins submitted a COA to paint the
green trim around the windows and front door, as well as paint the wood door. The proposed paint color for the framing trim
and front door is Sayward Pine off the Historic Colors of America color chart. A motion was made by Commissioner Paul
Gibson and seconded by Commissioner Andy Knox that nothing in the proposed design affects the adjacent downtown
buildings. A motion to approve the paint color (10.8 Color) was made by Commissioner Paul Gibson and seconded by
Commissioner Lindsay Dodson. The motions were approved unanimously.
3. COA $6-2022-10 S. G�h Street—M7 Studio/Bryan & Juli Litchford. The applicants were not present fox the
meeting. A motion to table this agenda item was made by Commissioner Lindsay Dodson and seconded by Commissioner Paul
Gibson. The motion was approved unanimously. This COA was then voted on by email: A motion was made by Commissioner
Lindsay Dodson and seconded by Commissioner Derald Porter that nothing in the proposed design affects the adjacent
downtown buildings. A motion to approve the window signage (10.25 Signage) in the paint color Vinal Haven and using
Helvetica Medium font was made by Commissioner Lindsay Dodson and seconded by Commissioner Derald Porter,
4. CLG Assessment—Iain Montgomery,
AHPP CLG Coordinator. Mr.
Montgomery attended the meeting to
complete the AHPP
Quarterly Assessment of the
City of Van Buren Historic District
Commission. He was in attendance to
observe only but did
answer general questions and
provide useful information to the commission.
5. New/Old Business. Using CLG grant monies, the City of Van Buren has entered into a contract with Jolmon
Consulting, LLC; to xe-survey the. Historic District. Antoinette Johnson and Brian Minyard of Johnson Consulting, LLC;
introduced themselves to the commission and gave a progress report on the architectural surveying of the district.
A motion to adjourn was made by Commissioner Paul Gibson and seconded by Commissioner Lindsay Dodson. The motion
was approved unanimously.
