HDC Minutes 06-09-2022Murucipa]..Annex 111 North 12" Street • Van Buren, Arkansas 72956 HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION MINUTES June 09, 2022 'Phe Van Buren FIistoric District Corxrnnission held its monthly meeting on Thursday, June 09, 2022, at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Room of the Municipal Complex. Members present: Chairman Vickie Davis, Vice -Chairman Derald Porter, Lindsay Dodson, Paul Gibson, Cathy Gifford, and Commission Secretary Jennifer Willoughby. Commissioner/TOTMA Es-Officio Andy Knox was absent. 1. Approval of Minutes from April 14, 2022. A motion was made by Commissioner Paul Gibson and seconded by Commissioner Cathy Gifford to approve the minutes. The motion was approved unanimously. 2. COA #4-2022-515 Main; Echoes Apothecary/Angela Shook. Angela and Jefftey Shook submitted a COA to paint the front exterior door, door trim, and frame. They would also like to add a 3 ft round vintage -looking sign to the existing mounting bracket located at the top of the building. The proposed paint color for the front door and trim is Iudson Bay (blue). The round wood sign will also be in the color Hudson Bay using the same font as the window sign. The existing bracket for the sign is flat black. A motion was made by Commissioner Cathy Gifford and seconded by Vice -Chairman Derald Porter that nothing in the proposed design affects the adjacent downtown buildings. A motion to approve the paint colors (10.8 Color) and sign design (10.25 Signage) was made by Comm ssioner Cathy Gifford and seconded by Vice -Chairman Derald Porter. The motions were approved unanimously. 3. New/Old Business. a. Discussed updates on the Blanche Moore Park (VB Class of 1952) Mural painted on the ramp/retaining wall against 720 Main Street. As of yet, there has been no contact with the original classmates or artist (Martha Dollar Efurd). Commissioner Paul Gibson stated that he checked the wall, and he says the retaining wall is fine. It is the paint that is blistered up. His advice is to get as much of the old paint off as possible, then prime with quality concrete paint and use a UV protectant sealer.
