HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION MINUTES
November 99 2017
The Van Bueen Historic District Commission held its monthly meeting on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at
5:30 P.M. in the City Council Room of the Municipal Complex.
Members Present: Chairman Lisa Willis, Vice Chairman Vickie Davis, Paul Gibson, Derald Porter and Alan
Foliart. Chairman Lisa Willis called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. The fast item on the agenda was to
approve the minutes from the previous meeting. A motion was made by Vickie Davis and seconded by
Derald Porter to accept the minutes. The motion was approved unanimously.
The next item on the agenda was for an update on the education project. Vice Chairman Vickie Davis. No
one from the public showed up. We will try and set another date since there were other activities planned on
that same Saturday.
Next item on the agenda was fox an update on the amendment for HDC city ordinance allowing for an
increase in the Certificate of Appropriateness form. The amendment was approved by the City Council for
approval.
The next item on the agenda was an update on the plaque for the Pernot House. We are still looking into
some prices on the bronze plaque. We have received the letter from AHPP, and will have that framed along
with the plaque. Julie Copple will call the Wilson's and let them ]mow we are getting the plaque and will set a
time up for presentation from the city once we receive the plaque.
Next item on agenda was an update from Paul Gibson on the spring training with Bob Yapp. The training
would consist of a 2-3 day hands-on workshop seminar. Brick and Mortar will be the class. 92% of our
downtown windows are metal frames, so we will not do training on windows. After we pick the dates, then
we can pick a building from downtown for the class. Paul Gibson said he will talk to Bob Yapp, and ask what
will be the best time frame, how many can we get in a class, etc. Next item on agenda was New/Old
Business. CLG Grant for 2018, Letter of Intent is due December 21, 2017. There is the NAPC/Forum 2018
in Des Moines, Iowa next July. Julie will check into funding from the CLG 2018 grant for the upcoming
spring training with Bob Yapp, even though funds aren't released until late summer. Would like to discuss
more in depth at our next meeting about our park lets (temp pop outs). Let's think about what we want and
how does it fall under our guidelines. A motion was made by Paul Gibson and seconded by Vickie Davis to
