HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION MINUTES
August 109 2017
The Van Buren Historic District Commission held its monthly meeting on Thursday, August 1Q, 2017 at 5:30 P.M. in
the City Council Room of the Municipal Complex.
Members Present Chairman Lisa Willis, Vice Chairman Vickie Davis, Cathy Gifford, Paul Gibson, Derald Porter, Alan
Foliart and Lonnie London.
Chairman Lisa Willis called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. The first item on the agenda was to approve the minutes
from the previous meeting. A motion was made by Cathy Gifford and seconded by Paul Gibson to accept the minutes.
The motion was approved unanimously.
The next item on the agenda was the COA fee application change. Discussion about increasing the Certificate of
Appropriateness application fee from $10 to $20. A motion was made by Alan Foliart and seconded by Paul Gibson to
forward the request to increase the fee on the Certificate of Appropriateness application to the city council for approval.
The motion to approve was unanimous.
Next item on the agenda was the review of the COA application. Item was tabled until next month.
The next item was the education project. Chairman Willis discussed drafting a memo to send to the building owners
requesting they meet with the commission and bring their history/information on their building. The event will be held
at the Drennen Scott house meeting room. Derald Porter and Vice Chairman Vickie Davis will be arranging this project.
Paul Gibson will be going to wood window repair training in Hot Springs, on September 16"'. After that certified
training, the commission would like to host window training for Paul to teach this on October 7t°, 8:30-4:30, at Main
Street Attractions building. Fee may be included. Details will be discussed at our next meeting.
New Business: Lonnie London spoke to the commission about the Girl Scouts having to do a community project. An
idea to build a bench at the trolley stop was mentioned. The project needs to be completed by September 30, 2017.
There was a discussion concerning a plaque for the park bench, and for the nomination of the Pemot House at 119
Fayetteville road. Details will be discussed at the September meeting.
A motion was made by Paul Gibson and seconded by Cathy Gifford to adjourn. The motion was approved
