HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION MINUTES
September 12, 2019
The Van Buren Historic District Commission held its monthly meeting on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at
5:30 P.M. in the City Council Room of the Municipal Complex. Members Present: Vice Chairman Derald
Porter, Paul Gibson, Lonnie London, Cathy Gifford and Roger Redden. Others Present: Lori Griffin, Bruce
Strandlien and Julie Copple, Planning Assistant.
Vice Chairman Dexald Poxtee called the meeting to order at 5:30pm, the first item on the agenda was to
approve the minutes from the last meeting. A motion was made by Lonnie London and seconded by Paul
Gibson to approve the minutes. The motion was approved unanimously.
The next item on the agenda was
the CAIVIl' training set for
September 20
in Little Rock, AI-1PP
building.
Deadline to register is tomorrow.
Not sure if anyone will be
able to attend.
Mote training will be
coming up
the beginning of next year.
Next item was the COA#2-2019, Bmce Steandlien, 720 Main Street Mx. Steandlien is requesting approval
for paint colors on trim and to replace an awning that had once existed on the building. Commission said the
awning/posts must line up with existing awning on the building next door. Colors approved: St. William
Green and Drum Beat red. Awning will be the approved green. Paint will be flat. The approval of the COA
does not significantly affect surrounding area. A motion was made by Paul Gibson and seconded by Lonnie
London to approve the COA with the condition of the awning materials be approved before installation. The
motion was unanimous.
Fourth item on the agenda was COA443-2019, Lori Griffin 615B Main Street. Mxs. Griffin is requesting
approval fox a sign at 615B Main Street. Colors approved: Newberry Moss, Golden Rod and Sayward Pine.
Paint will be flat. There is an existing bracket on site. The approval of the COA does not significantly affect
surrounding area. A motion was made by Lonnie London and seconded by Roger Redden to approve the
COA. The motion was unanimous.
New/Old Business: The TAP giant fox $493,000 was approved for the downtown streetscape beautification
from the 5� Block to the 7a' block Not sure the date of when it will start.
A motion was made by Paul Gibson and seconded by Lonnie London to adjourn. The motion was approved
unanimously.
