ORDINANCE NO o26 -2001
AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING TAXICAB FARES AND FOR OTHER
PURPOSES.

WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 24 -2001 provides that the City Council shall
establish fares which shall be charged by taxicab operators and
drivers, and that such fares shall be kept on file in the office of the
City Clerk.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF VAN BUREN, ARKANSAS:
SECTION 1: Fares. No operator or driver shall charge, or permit to be charged,
a greater or lesser rate of fare than the following:
(1) For initial pick up for transportation from any point to another
point within one mile, the sum of Two Dollars ($2.00); plus
(2) Seventy -Five cents ($.75) for each mile after the initial mile
from the point of delivery using the most direct, horizontal
vertical distance between said points;
(3) Two Dollars ($2.00) for each extra passenger involved in any
one pick up and delivery;
(4) Twenty -Four Dollars ($24.00) per hour for waiting time, and a
pro rata portion thereof for periods of waiting less than one
hour, provided no charge shall be made for a period of waiting
less than three (3) minutes, and no charge shall be made for
waiting at traffic signal lights and in traffic;
(5) Seven Dollars ($7.00) plus fares to reserve a private cab for use
by one individual for transporting purposes only;
(6) Twenty -Four Dollars ($24.00) to reserve a private cab for use
by one individual for moving purposes (household and
personal items);
(7) In addition to the rates listed above. the following incidental,;
fees may be charged:
Bag charges $1.00/bag
(Trunk space)
(No charges for wheelchairs
or groceries)
Clean-up charge $40.00

significantly inclement weather
conditions (to be charged only
after Mayor's approval)
SECTION 2: Penalties. Charging in excess of the provisions or regulations of
this Ordinance shall be punishable as a misdemeanor with a fine of
up to $250.00 and shall subject the violator to revocation of the
violator's operator's and /or driver's permit. Each charge in excess
of the provisions or regulations of this Ordinance shall be a
separate offense and shall be punishable by a fine of up to $250.00
per day.
SECTION 3: The City Clerk is directed to keep a list of the fares on file in her
office.
