PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES
July 3, 2018
The Van Buten Planning Commission held its monthly meeting on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at 5:30
P.M., in the City Council Room of the Municipal Complex,
Members Present - Chairman Andy Dibble, Vice Chairman Philip Bagby, Mark Evans, John
Symonds, Lynne Graham and Jason Myers. Others Present -Joseph Hurst, Planning Director, David
Martin, City Building Inspector, Candice Settles, City Attorney, Chad Brixey and Ragan Clements.
The first item on the agenda was to approve the minutes from the previous meeting. A motion was
made by Lynne Graham and seconded by Mark Evans to approve the minutes. The motion was
approved unanimously.
Next item on the agenda was for the public hearing on the Northridge Annexation for the Van
Buren School District. Mr. Hurst, Planning Director, explained to the commission that this is the
land for the new school, and the county has obtained all the required signatures and filed the
paperwork in Circuit Court. The next step will be for the City Council to accept, once the Planning
Commission has approved this annexation. The parcel will be zoned G-1, Government and Public
Use Zone. Ms. Candice Settles, Van Buren School Board member, also stated the board is in favor
of the annexation. Chairman Dibble asked if anyone else from the public was present to speak for or
against the annexation. A motion was made by Lynne Graham and seconded by Jason Myers to
recommend annexation to the City Council for approval. The motion was carried unanimously.
The next item on the agenda was for the public hearing of the final plat for Legacy Valley Phase 6,
Brixey Engineering, Chad Brixey. Mr. Brixey stated the changes stated from the preliminary plat
review were made, and the addresses and street names were added to the final plat. The street
completion was discussed again with some concerns. Joe Hurst, Planning Director, assured the
commission that a meeting will take place with Wayne Sandusky, City Street Department, Chad
Brixey, Brixey Engineering and the Planning Department, to make sure the streets are built to the
standard specifications required by the city.
