Planning Commission Minutes February 6, 2018City of Van Buren, Arkansas Municipal Annex 111 North 12" Street • Van Buren, Arkansas 72956 PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES February 6, 2018 The Van Buren Planning Commission held its monthly meeting on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at 5:30 P.M., in the City Council Room of the Municipal Complex. Members Present — Chairman Andy Dibble, Vice Chairman Philip Bagby, John Symonds, Lynne Graham, Jay White and Mason Shirey. Others Present Joseph Hurst, Planning Director, Julie Copple, Planning Commission Secretary, David Martin, City Building Inspector, Wiley Smith, C.E, Sivell Engineering. The first item on the agenda was to approve the minutes from the previous meeting. A motion was made by John Symonds and seconded by Jay White to approve the minutes. The motion was approved unanimously. Welcome to Mason Shirey to the Planning Commission. Next item on the agenda was the public hearing for Variance#2-2018, Wiley Smith, Sivell Engineering, Habitat Plat, Lots 1-5, Van Buren. Mr. Smith was requesting a variance for the front yard setback on the buildings from 20' to 10' due to the construction of a 26 ft wide road, that took away quite a bit of the frontage on the 3 lots. Mt. Joseph Hurst, Planning Director, stated the city had been meeting with the developer and engineer, trying to figure the safest and best use for the area. A motion was made by Vice Chairman Philip Bagby and seconded by John Symonds to approve the variance. The motion was approved unanimously. The next item on the agenda was approval of the final plat review, Habitat Addition, Lots 1-5. A motion was made by John Symonds and seconded by Jay White to approve the final plat review. The motion was approved unanimously. Next item on the agenda was for new/old business. Chairman Dibble would like some volunteers from the commission for a working group to look at zoning, landscaping requirements, parking, height restrictions, etc. Volunteers are Mason Shirey, Mark Evans, John Symonds and Andy Dibble. The planning department will look at some dates and email the group. A motion was made by Vice Chairman Philip Bagby and seconded by Lynne Graham to adjourn the meeting. Joe H st, Planning Director
