PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES
February 2, 2016
The Van Buren Planning Commission held its monthly meeting on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at
5:30 P.M., in the City Council Room of the Municipal Complex.
Members Present — Chairman Andy Dibble, Vice Chairman Philip Bagby, Mark Evans, Jay White,
Lynne Graham, Jason Myers, Sam McCain, John Symonds and Tiffany Webster.
Others Present- Planning Director Joe Hurst, Planning Assistant Julie Copple, Building Inspector
David Martin, City Attorney Candice Settle and Andy Comstock.
The first item on the agenda was to approve the minutes from the previous meeting. A motion was
made by Philip Bagby and seconded by John Symonds to approve the minutes. The motion was
approved unanimously.
The next item on the agenda was the Board of Adjustments hearing for variance on 514 North 14`''
Street, Andy Comstock. Mr. Comstock is proposing to relocate and expand the existing front
covered porch to accommodate the new floor plan and trying to maintain the architectural integrity
of the home. Chairman Dibble states the property also needs a variance for the side yard set -back.
A motion was made by Jason Myers and seconded by Mark Evans to approve the variance for the
side yard and front yard set -backs. The motion was passed unanimously.
The next item on the agenda was other business. Chairman Dibble mentioned the working group
who met last week are winding their way through the Van Buren specifications. We will continue to
meet and make progress, it just may take a while. Chairman Dibble also mentioned the training for
Planning Commissioners coming up on March 9`' in Conway, Arkansas. Recommends any
commissioner to attend, especially if you are new or need a refresher. It will really open your eyes to
what our duties are as a Planning Commission and a good way to look at the planning process.
Expenses are covered by the city, please contact the Planning Department. Also, there is a public
hearing for the traffic issues on Hwy 59 and Interstate 40, on February 9`'' at the Senior Center.
