PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES
September 8, 2015
The Van Buren Planning Commission held its monthly meeting on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at
5:30 P.M., in the City Council Room of the Municipal Complex.
Members Present — Vice Chairman Philip Bagby, Mark Evans, Jay White, Jason Myers, Tiffany
Webster, Lynne Graham and John Symonds.
Member Absent: Chairman Andy Dibble.
Others Present- Planning Assistant Julie Copple, Building Inspector David Martin, City Attorney
Candace Settles, Kendal Hogan, Elite Roofing.
The first item on the agenda was to approve the minutes from the previous meeting. A motion was
made by John Symonds and seconded by Mark Evans to approve the minutes. The motion was
approved unanimously.
The next item was approval for variance application for Kendal Hogan, Elite Roofing, for the
Current Church, Van Buren Original, 500 & 506 South 4`h Street. A public hearing was held on the
August 4, 2015, Planning Commission meeting with no objections to variance. A quorum was not
present, so Mr. Hogan was told to come back to the September meeting for approval. A motion
was made by Jason Myers and seconded by Mark Evans to approve variance for an awning on the
existing structures. The motion was approved unanimously.
Next item on the agenda was the sidewalk inventory survey. Vice Chairman asked the commission
if there were any questions or comments. John Symonds asked what was next after the survey.
Building Inspector David Martin stated the next step is prioritizing the sidewalks by need. Vice
Chairman Philip Bagby asked David Martin if he knew how much was in the sidewalk fund. Mr.
Martin thought it was around $25,000. Lynne Graham asked who would repair and maintain the
sidewalks. Mr. Martin stated the street department would be responsible. The planning commission
will take the survey home to review. A motion to adjourn was made by Jason Myers and seconded
by Lynne Graham. The motion was approved unanimously.
