Historic District Meeting Minutes 07-09-2015City of Van Buren, Arkansas Municipal Annex 111 North 12"' Street • Van Buren, Arkansas 72956 HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION MINUTES July 9, 2015 The Van Buren Historic District Commission held its monthly meeting on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at 5:30 P.M. in the City Council Room of the Municipal Complex. Members Present — Chairman Vickie Davis, Vice Chairman Lisa Willis, Derald Porter, Cathy Gifford, Paul Gibson and Lonnie London, TOTMA. Others Present — Planning Assistant Julie Copple, AHPP CLG Coordinator Catherine Barrier, Fairview Cemetery Liaison Randy Smith, Kaye Moore and Mindy London. Historic District Commission Chairman Vickie Davis called the meeting to order at 5:30 P.M. The first action by the commission was to approve the minutes from the previous meeting. A motion was made by Cathy Gifford to correct her last name, and to accept minutes. The motion was approved unanimously. Chairman Vickie Davis welcomed guests Catherine Barrier and Randy Smith. The next item on the agenda was the Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum for Randy and Kaye Moore. Chairman Vickie Davis asked Randy Smith to speak to the commission about Fairview and the mausoleum for the Moore's'. Mr. Smith stated the mausoleum is beautiful and fits the Fairview Cemetery historic guidelines. The commission was satisfied that Mr. Smith approved mausoleum. A motion to accept mausoleum was made by Paul Gibson and seconded by Cathy Gifford. The motion was approved unanimously. The next item on the agenda was Catherine Barrier, CLG Coordinator, Arkansas Historic Preservation Program. Ms. Barrier stated that training will start to be on-site since it is easier for one to travel to training instead of groups. She asked the commission to start thinking of subjects for training needs for your HDC. Ms. Barrier was asked about some ideas for CLG grant money. Some of the ideas: Geocache, interns and GIS storybook maps. Large projects can ask for money in phases. Fagade grants are through Main Street Program. There is some training coming up in September for Destination Downtown in Little Rock. Main Street website has more information about training in September. Dollars and Sense at the end of October is another training opportunity. Geocache update. Vice Chairman Lisa Willis stated she is working on getting different architectural pictures, specialty brick on abstract buildings for the brochure. Vice Chairman Willis will be working on updating and changing the brochure for the next phase in the geocache. A motion was made by Paul Gibson and seconded by Cathy Gifford to adjourn.
