2014 at 5:30 P.M., in the City Council Room of the Municipal Complex.

Member(s) Absent –John Symonds and Paul Gibson
Items on the Agenda:

2. Introduce new commissioner Derald Porter
3. Discuss Forum 2014 Convention

Chairman Vickie Davis called the meeting to order at 5:30 P.M. The first action by the
commission was to approve the minutes from the last meeting. The commission members present
accepted the minutes unanimously.
Vickie Davis introduced new member Derald Porter. Jody Rhoads and Vickie Davis welcome
Derald to the Historic District Commission and discuss his interest in the commission.
The commissioners discussed the Forum 2014 convention in Philadelphia, July 16-20th.
Vickie Davis and Derald Porter state they are planning to attend. Vickie suggested we pre- block
some rooms at the host hotel before they book up.
Jody Rhoads inquires, what exactly is required as far as training for commissioners.
Vickie inquires about CAMP’s and quarterly training available.
Lisa Franklin, recording secretary and CLG Coordinator explains to the commission that there are
no quarterly training events scheduled at this time according to Patricia Blick our State (CLG)
Coordinator with AHPPA. We will only be focusing on the Convention in Philadelphia this year.
Lisa explains that there is a CAMP event in Norman, OK scheduled in June. Lisa states that she
will find out the details and if there is an opportunity for commission to attend this training
session and get back to the commission.
The discussion regarding Fairview COA’s has come before the commission. The Van Buren
Planning Department received a phone call from someone inquiring about what kind of
headstones are acceptable in Fairview. COA’s for Fairview are required now since it is now a
Historic District. Vickie states that they prefer to have the decision made as an administrative
COA unless there is just something out of the normal.
Jody Rhoads agrees with Vickie that unless there is just something we feel does not fit in, that
they would want to have approval of the COA’s handled administratively.
There is no more business before the commission. Vickie Davis asks for a motion to adjourn,
Jody Rhoads makes the motion and Derald Porter seconds. The meeting adjourned.
