ORD NO 07-1967 ORDINANCE NO. 7 -1967 AN ORDINANCE REQUIRING THE DRIVERS OF ALL VEHICLES APPROACHING t RAIILROAD GRADE CROSSINGS IN THE CITY OF VAN BUREN, ARKANSAS, TO STOP SUCH VEHICLES BEFORE DHIVING ONTO SAID CR05SING AND TO, PROCEED ONLY WHEN THEY CAN DO 50 5;FELY. DE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VAN BUREN, ARKANSAS AS FOLLOWS: 1; Whenever the driver of a vehicle spproaches a railroad grade crossing in the City of Van Buren, Arkansas, the driver of such vehicle shall bring such vehicle to a stop not less than fifteen (15) feet from the nuarest rail of such railroad track, and while so stopped, shall both look and listen in both directions along such track for approaching railway traffic, and shall'not proceed until he can du so safely. The foregoing requirements shall apply when: R. A train approaching within approximately 1500 feet of -the 0 grade crossing emits a signal audible from such distance and such train, by reason of its speed or nearness to such crossing, is an immediate hazard; ur B. An approaching train is plainly visible and is in hazardous proximity of such crossing; or C. A stop sign has been erected at any such crossing. II. There is hereby authorized the erection and maintenance of step signs at each of the following railroad grade crossings in the City of Van Buren, Arkansas: North 3rd, Cane Hill, North 1lth North 12th, North 13th, North 16th, North 19th, North 20th and Alma Blvd. III. Any driver of a vehicle who shall violate any of the provisions of this Ordinance, shall be deemed guilty of a mis- demeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by,a, fineof not to exceed t50.00 dollars, IV. That due to the need to protect the motoring public an emergency is therefore declared and this ordinance being necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health, and safety shall be in full farce and effect from and after its passage, approval and publication.
