ORDINANCE NO. 30 -1973
Lot 3, Block 28, McGee Addition to City of Van
Buren, Arkansas, Street Address 1414 Chestnut
WHEREAS, Section 19 -2803 of Arkansas Statute annotated 1947
gives the City Council the authority to order removal or razing of any
building or house that has become in the opinion of the Council dil-
apidated, unsightly, unsafe, unsanitary, obnoxious, or detremental to
the public welfare.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VAN BUREN,
Section 1. That Chauncy Jackson is claiming ownership of said
property thru a tax deed. That Opha McArm had legal title and she is now
deceased, leaving no children surviving her and that Chauncy Jackson was
a nephew of Opha McArm as is Eugene Jackson and other relatives who are
unknown to the City. That Opha klcArm died before the afore mentioned
tax deed. That the owner and /or owners is hereby ordered to remove or
raze the building upon said property within thirty (30) days from the
effective date of this Ordinance.
Section 2. That said property is herein after set forth:
Lot 3, Block 28, McGee Addition to the City of Van
Buren, Arkansas, street Address 1414 Chestnut.
The house on said property is declared to be structural, fire and health
hazard.
Section 3. That the City Attorney is hereby directed to in-
stitute such legal proceedings as may be necessary in order to enforce the
provisions of this ordinance to remedy the dangerous and unsightly con-
ditions brought about as a result of the failure of the property owner or
owners to properly keep up said property.
Section 4. That said legal proceedings shall provide that unless
the house is razed within a certain period, to be allowed by the Court, the
City of Van Buren will be authorized to raze said house and have a lien
upon the real estate for the cost of removing said house.
Section 5. A copy of this ordinance shall be served upon Chauncy
Jackson and Eugene Jackson by mailing a copy to them at their respective
residences and notice to the unknown heirs of Opha McArm be published in
the Press Argus in the edition with the copy of this ordinance.

Section 6. That all Ordinances and parts of Ordinances in
conflict are hereby repealed and, unless the provisions of this
Ordinance are put into effect immediately, the public peace, health,
and safety of the City of Van Buren will be adversely affected;
therefore, an emergency is hereby declared to exist, and this Or-
dinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage
and approval, and publication.
