AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING SOLICITORS, PEDDLERS, HAWKERS AND ITINERANT
MERCHANTS OR VENDORS GOING IN OR UPON RESIDENCES WITHOUT INVITATION,
PROVIDING A PENALTY THEREFOR, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SECTION I:(a) The practice of going in and upon any private residence
in the city by solicitors, peddlers, hawkers, itinerant merchants or
transient vendors of merchandise, not having been requested or invited
to do so by the owner or occupant of such private residence, for the
purpose of soliciting orders for the sale of goods, wares and merchan-
dise, or disposing of or peddling or hawking the same is declared to
be a misdemeanor.
(b) The provisions of this section shall not apply to the
sale or soliciting of orders for the sale of fruits, vegetables or
other products of the farm, including meat from domestic animals or
livestock, so far as the sale of such commodities is authorized by law.
SECTION II: THAT ANY PERSON, FIRM OR CORPORATION violating the pro-
visions of this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and
upon conviction shall be fined in any sum of not less than $25.00 nor
more than $100.00.
SECTION III: That due to the need to protect the public from an in-
vasion of their right of privacy, an emergency is therefore declared
and this ordinance being necessary for the preservation of the public
peace, health and safety shall be in full force and effect from and
after its passage,approval and publication.
