AN ORDINANCE FIXItNG RATES FOR THE SALE OF WATER, REPEALING
.,ORDI27ANCES IN CONFLICT THEREWITH AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

WHEREAS, the cost of water to the City of Van Buren has
been increased materially because of a raise in the water
rates charged to it by the City of Fort Smith, Arkansas; and.
WHEREAS, the City of Van Buren is obligated='to,the pay
an ent of bonded indebtedness for construction of improveisents
and betterments to the system and the cost thereof and the
cost of operating the water system makes it necessary that
such raise in rates he passed on to its customers.;. -and,
WHEREAS, it is necessary for the City Council of the City, :t
of Van Buren, Arkansas, to establish monthly minimum/charge
-for the sale of water and fix the cost of water sold in addi s at
tion to the amount included in the minimum;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY TIIE CITY COUNCIL, OF TUE
CITY OF VAN BUREII ARKANSAS:
Section 1. That the following monthly rates for each
customer connected to and served by the water system of

city of Van Buren, Arkansas, be'charged and billed for water ar ;`,t
;delivered and metered to them according to the following monthly
•rates which the Council finds and determines are reasonable and'
,necessary rates to he charged:
First 1,000 Gallons (or minimum) $2.15 each.P1 gal.,''
Next 4,000 Gallons 95
Next 5,000 Gallons
Next 90,000 Gallons
All over 100,000 Gallons 30
Water for resale .20 rr a
All water users outside the city limits of the City of
Van Buren, Arkansas, shall. pay one and one -half times 11
the rate for customers inside the city limits with a
monthly minimum of $3.23 for the'first 1,000 gallons er
less.

Section 3. All ordinances and part of ordinances in, con
:flict herewith are hereby repealed.

Section 4. It is ascertained and declared that there is
.immediate 'need in order to procure approved. water.- and to pro-
tect the health, lives and property of the inhabitant's. of the
;.City of Van Duren, Arkansas, to charge andcolleCt the rates
hereinabove set out; therefore, an emergency is found, to-existe'-
,that this ordinance is necessary for the preservation of the
public peace, health and safety, same shall take effect and r'
be in force without delay; and the same shall be charged
which is billed
