ORDINANCE NO. I-7 -1976
AN ORDINANCE TO REFER THE FOLLOWING ORDINANCE TO THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY
OF VAN BUREN, ARKANSAS. AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE 3 -1964 (Dog
Ordinance) AS AMENDED BY REPEALING SECTION 6 THEREOF, AND SUBSTITUTING
A NEW SECTION 6 THEREFOR.
SECTION 1. AMENDING ORDINANCE No. 3 -1964, as amended to repeal the
present Section 6 and substitute the following Section 6.
"SECTION 6: CONFINEMENT OF DOGS. No person, firm, partnership
or corporation owning, keeping or harboring a dog, or dogs, whe-
ther vaccinated or unvaccinated, licensed or unlicensed, shall
allow such dog, or dogs, to run at large within the corporate
limits of the City of Van Buren, Arkansas."
SECTION 2: POPULAR VOTE. This Ordinance is hereby subject to a vote
of the qualified electors of the City of Van Buren, Arkansas, at a special
election to be held in the various wards and precincts of the City of Van
Buren, Arkansas on May 25, 1976.

SECTION 3: BALLOT. That the question shall be placed on the
ballot for the election in substantially the following form:

AGAINST: Ordinance No. -1976
IT IS PROPOSED TO provide for confinement of dogs in the City of
Van Buren, Arkansas.
SECTION 4: That the election shall be held and conducted and the
vote canvassed and the results declared under the law and the manner pro-
vided for Municipal Elections so far as the same may be applicable and the
Mayor of the said City shall give notice of the election by an advertise-
ment published once a week for four (4) consecutive weeks, in a newspaper
having a bona fide circulation in the City, with the last publication to be
NOT less than ten (10) days prior to the date of the election, and only
qualified electors of said City shall have the right to vote at the election.
SECTION 5: That the results of the election shall be proclaimed by the
Mayor and his proclamation shall be published one (1) time in'a newspaper
having a bona fide circulation in the City; which proclamation shall advise
that the results, as proclaimed, shall be conclusive until attacked in the
Courts within thirty (30) days after the date of proclamation.
SECTION 6: That 'a copy of this Ordinance shall be furnished to the
Crawford County Board of Election Commissioners so that the necessary
election officials and supplies may be furnished.
SECTION That there is hereby found and declared to be an immediate
need to resolve this question. It is therefore DECLARED that an emergency
exists and this Ordinance being necessary for the immediate preservation
l ip of the public health, safety and welfare and shall be in force and take
effect immediately upon and after its passage.
