AN ORDINANCE ENTITLED "AN ORDINANCE TO REPEAL THE INITIATED ORDINANCE. ADOPTED AT
THE CITY GENERAL ELECTION HELD APRIL 7, 1942, CREATING A BOARD OF CIVIL SERVICE
COMMISSIONERS FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY OF VAN BUREN, ARKANSAS, AND THE
ORDINANCE PASSED APRIL 13, 1942, APPOINTING A BOARD OF CIVIL SERVICE COMMJSSIONERS
FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY OF VAN BUREN, ARKANSAS AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES!'
BE IT ENACTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VAN BUREN, ARKANSAS.
SECTION 1. That the initiated ordinance adopted at the City General
Election held in the City of Van Buren, Arkansas, on the 7th day of April, 1942,
creating a Board of Civil Service Commissioners for the Fire Department of the
City of Van Buren, Arkansas, which Ordinance appears in Ordinance Book "E" at
page 245, and the Ordinance adopted by the City Council of the City of Van Buren,
Arkansas, on April 13, 1942, appointing a Board of Civil Service Commissioners
for the Fire Department of the City of Van Buren, Arkansas, which Ordinance ap-
pears in Ordinance Book "E" at page 241.
SECTION 2. That state law has been changed to call for five (5)
Commissioners and there has been other changes in the state law in regards to
the Board of Civil Service Commissioners, it is hereby ascertained and determined
by this body that an emergency exists and this repealing ordinance being nec-
essary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health and safety,
shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval.
