ORDINANCE NO. 12 1979
AN ORDINANCE ACCEPTING THE GIFT' OF LAND TO THE CITY OF
VAN BUREN, ARKANSAS, AND EXPRESSING THE APPRECIATION OF THE
CITY OF VAN BUREN TO MIKE MEYER FOR HIS DONATION OF THE OLD
WHARF AREA TO THE CITY OF VAN BUREN, ARKANSAS, COMMITTING
GRANT FUNDS TO DEVELOP THE AREA AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS: H.H. "Mike" Meyer has been a prominent citizen of Van Buren,
Arkansas, and a leader in the progress of this city, and
WHEREAS: Mike Meyer has deeded to the City of Van Buren, Arkansas, the
old river wharf site and surrounding area, between Broadway and
Washington Streets, Water Street, and the Arkansas River, together
with Bridge Island and Wharf Island, and
WHEREAS: The city hereby accepts this gift and the deeds to this land,
and has agreed to develop this area into a park for conservation
purposes, and only for public outdoor recreation, education, and
scenic enjoyment;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VAN
BUREN, ARKANSAS:
1. On behalf of the people of Van Buren, Arkansas, the Mayor and
City Council express their appreciation for the donation of the old river
wharf site and surrounding area on the Van Buren riverfront.
2. The full value of this donation shall be used as the local
matching share for a grant to be obtained from the Heritage Conservation
and Recreation Service, U.S. Department of the Interior, and the City
will expend an amount equal to that grant, out of said grant funds, for
the development upon this land of a park, exclusively for conservation
purposes, and for public outdoor recreation, education, and scenic
enjoyment.
3. The need to finalize the accepting of this deed, and providing
matching money for a grant to construct a park upon said land, an
emergency is therefore declared and this ordinance being necessary for
the preservation of the public peace, health, and safety shall be in full
force and effect from and after its passage.
