RES NO 04-05-1981 y -1981 CITY OF VAN BUREN, ARKANSAS RESOLUTION NO. 5 4 1981 A RESOLUTION IN OPPOSITION TO THE CITY OF FAYETPEVILTF'S PLAN TO PIPE SEWAGE TREATED TO SECONDARY LEVELS FROM A TREATMENT PLANT AT OR NEAR FARMINGTON, ARKANSAS, THROUGH THE ILLINOIS RIVER WA'T'ER SHED AND THE TIFF CREEK WA'T'ER SHED TO BE DUMPED IN THE ARKANSAS RIVER. WHEREAS, The Lee Creek drainage basin is foremost in the future water supply source for the Van Buren, Fort Smith area; and WHEREAS, Both the City of Van Buren, Arkansas, and the City of Fort Smith, Arkansas, discharge secondary effluents into the Arkansas River and the navigation pool created by Lock and Dam No. 13. We are concerned about the river's ability to assimilate the additional waste; and WHEREAS, They are considering the possibility that the last two miles of the proposed pipeline be an open channel. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VAN BUREN, ARKANSAS, 1. THAT we oppose the City of Fayetteville's proposed alternative to convey and discharge treated effluents to the Arkansas River near Van Buren. 2. THAT a copy of this Resolution be sent to the City of Fayetteville, and to all State and Federal agencies considering the plan. PASSED AND APPROVED THIS 20th DAY OF April 19 81 MAYOR CITY CLFRK -T• R
