RES NO 08-01-1983 8 i CITY OF VAN BUREN, ARKANSAS RESOLUTION NO. -1983 A RESOLUTION CONCURRING WITH THE WATER AND SEWER COMMISSION IN PROCEEDING WITH SOLVING A PART OF VAN BUREN'S SEWER PROBLEMS WITHOUT EPA ASSISTANCE. WHEREAS, The Water and Sewer Commission passed a Res- olution on August 9, 1983, requesting Mayor and City Council concurrence as outlined in the attached copy of their Resolution. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VAN BUREN, ARKANSAS: THAT, The City Council hereby concurs with the Water and Sewer Commission in proceeding as outlined in the attached Resolution. PASSED.AND APPROVED THIS 22nd DAY OF August 1983 r MAYOR ATTESTED: m C' TY CLE°K- R R U EAS ER k RESOLUTION A RESOLUTION REQUESTING MAYOR AND COUNCIL CONCURRANCE IN PROCEEDING ai WITH SOLVING A PART OF VAN BURENS SEWER PROBLEMS WITHOUT EPA ASSISTANCE. fi WHEREAS, The city of Van Buren has attempted to obtain EPA Sewer Construction Grant Funds since 1978 to alleviate the city's many sewer problems, and; WHEREAS, the city proceeded to meet the EPA requirements by making available grant matching funds; developing a Sewer Facility Plan; instituting an industrial waste pretreatment program; and submitted construction plans as required by an EPA administrative order: and; WHEREAS, the city of Van Buren now ranks last on the states priority list for funding of Phase III actual construction of the project, with no prospects for funding in the forseeable future, and; WHEREAS, the Water And Sewer Commission concluded that the City should proceed to solve some of its problems on our own, while continuing trying to obtain EPA grant assistance for the remainder of our Sewer problems, and; WHEREAS, it is our understanding that doing part of the N= project on our own will not jepordize our chances for future ?9 funding, NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by,the Van Buren Water and Sewer Commission: 1. That solving the sewer problems on the North side of the City be given top priority. 2. That the city proceed immediately on its own with the plan 2 -A as described in the facilitie's plan only' a smaller scale 4 and as described in alternative engineering report by Larry Weir dated August 8, 1983. 3.
