ORD NO 13-1990 CITY OF VAN BUREN, ARKANSAS ORDINANCE NO. i3 -1990 AN ORDINANCE ADOPTING BRIDGE STANDARDS FOR THE CITY OF VAN BUREN. WHEREAS, The City of Van Buren needs to adopt standards for any bridges to be constructed in the city: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VAN BUREN, ARKANSAS: SECTION 1: THAT the following "Bridge Standards" are hereby adopted: BRIDGE STANDARDS CITY OF VAN BUREN, ARKANSAS Bridges, defined as drainage structures which have a span of more than 20 feet, to be constructed in the City of Van Buren on public thoroughfares and rights of way shall adhere to the following minimum standards: 1. Bridges shall be designed for a minimum loading of H -20 as defined by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). 2. Bridges shall be constructed of reinforced con- crete, steel, or a combination thereof. 3. Materials and construction methods shall conform to the latest edition of the Standard Specifica- tions for Highway Construction of the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department. 4. Bridge width shall be not less than 26 feet, and shall not be less than the width of the approach pavement plus 6 feet. SECTION 2: THAT the immediate passage of this act is necessary, and therefore, an emergency is declared to exist, and this act being necessary for the preserva- tion of public peace, health, welfare and safety shall take effect and be in full force from and after its passage.
