A RESOLUTION CHANGING THE DATE FOR CIVIL SERVICE APPOINTMENT
EXAMINATIONS.
WHEREFORE, the Van Buren Civil Service Com-
mission has properly met and
voted to change one of the dates
for its appointment examinations
from the first Monday of April to
the second Monday of April.
NOW THEREFORE, BY IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUN-
CIL OF THE CITY OF VAN BUREN,
ARKANSAS.
SECTION 1: That the City council hereby
approves the change of the date
for the April appointment exam-
ination from the first Monday of
April to the second Monday of
April.

No person on said Commission shall hold or be a candidate for public
office under any National, State, County, or Municipal government or
be connected in any official capacity with any political party or
organization, and no such person as herein enumerated shall be eligi-
ble as a member of said Board of Civil Service Commisioners, who at
the time of his election shall hold any office.
Three ±s.(3) of said members shall constitute a quorum in any
transaction. The Commissioners shall be citizens of the State of
Ark. and residents of the City for more than three (3) years next
preceeding their appointment.
The Van Buren City Council by a two-thirdss vote may remove any
of the said Civil Service Commissioners during their terms of office
for cause, and in the event of the removal of one or more said Civil
Service Commissioners, the Van Buren City Council shall fill the
vacancy created by such removal. The Board of Civil Service Commi-
ssioners shall elect one of the members as Secretary, who will keep
the books of said Board, and shall conduct the correspondence of
said Board and shall report the evidence in all trials or cause such
evidence to be reported for which the reasonable expense shall be
paid by the Municipality and said Secretary shall act as a Clerk when
the Board is conducting a trial court or any other duties that may be
ordered by the Board. The City Attorney shall act as Attorney for
the Civil Service Commission on all trials or legal transactions.
ARTICLE 2. Regulations. Pursuant to the provisions of Ark.
Code, Ann. 14 -51 -301, the following rules and regulations are hereby
adopted and shall be applicable to all Fire Department personnel.
Section 1. Open competitive examinations shall be given to
test the relative fitness of applicants for appointment to the Fire
Department and for promotions.
Section 2. Public notice of all entrance examinations shall be
given by publication of a notice in a newspaper having a bonified
circulation in the City of Van Buren, Ark., and by posting a notice
at the Van Buren Municipal Complex at least ten (10) days before the
date of said examinations. Appointment examinations may be held on
the second Monday in April and /or the first Monday in October of each
year, and at any other time as directed by the Board of Civil Service
Commissioners. Promotional examinations shall be held as needed.
All applications for entrance examinations shall be filed with the
Van Buren Equal Employment Opportunity officer or Fire Chief at least
twenty -four hours before the set time for holding the examinations.
Section 3. Eligibility lists shall be created for appointment
and for each rank of employment in the Fire Department in which shall
be entered the names of the successful candidates in the order of
their standing in the examination. All lists for appointment or for
promotion as certified by the Board of Civil Service Commissioners
shall be and remain in full force and effect for the period of one
year from the date thereof and at the expiration of said period all
right of priority under said lists shall cease.
