RESOLUTION NO. Z -1991
A RESOLUTION SETTING VACATION AND BEREAVMENT LEAVE POLICY FOR
CITY EMPLOYEES.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VAN BUREN,
ARKANSAS:
SECTION 1: That with the exception of the Van Buren
Police and Fire departments, all elegi-
ble full -time employees (i.e. those who
work over 25 hours per week) shall earn
annual vacation leave at the following
rates: one (1) week after six (6)
months employment; two (2) weeks after
one (1) year of employment; three (3)
weeks after ten (10) years of employ-
ment.
SECTION 2: For the purposes of this Resolution, a
week shall be defined as five (5) work-
ing days.
SECTION 3: Until such time as they achieve 10 years
service, the amount of annual vacation
leave afforded the employees of the
police department shall be governed by
A.C.A., Section 14 -52 -106.
SECTION 4: Until such time as they achieved 10
years service, the amount of annual va-
cation leave afforded the employees of
the fire department shall be governed by
A.C.A., Section 14 -52 -107.
SECTION 5: Upon serving 10 years with the City of
Van Buren, all employees of the police
and fire departments shall be entitled
to 20 days annual vacation.
SECTION 6: For all full time employees, including
the police and fire departments,
requests to take annual vacation leave
must be made to the employee's Depart-
ment Head or Supervisor, who shallthen
submit the request to the Mayor for
approval. If more than one employee in
the same department requests annual va-
cation leave for the same time, and it
is not in the best interest of the City
to grant the leave to both employees,
then the request of the employee with
seniority will take presidence.
SECTION 7: An employee shall be entitled to build
up vacation time without losing any
portion(ofit, however, an employee
shall not be authorized to take more
than two weeks continuous vacation.
SECTION 8: When an employee leaves the employ of
the City with vacation time due, that
employee shall be compensated for the
unused vacation time.
SECTION 9: Bereavement leave may be granted to all
full -time employees due to a death in
their immediate family. Such bereave-
ment leave shall not exceed three (3)
days. For the purpose of this policy,
immediate family shall include: Father,
Mother, Husband, Wife, Children, Brother
Sister, Father -In -Law, Mother -In -Law,
Grandfather, Grandmother, and Grand-
children.
SECTION 10: Requests for bereavement leave shall be
made to the employee's Department Head
or Supervisor, who shall then advise the
Mayor of the request.
SECTION 11: Any and all Resolutions or regulations,
or parts of Resolutions or regulations
in conflict with this Resolution shall
hereafter be null and void.
