ORDINANCE NO:Cq - 2025
BE IT ENACTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL, FOR THE CITY OF VAN BUREN,
ARKANSAS, AN ORDINANCE TO BE ENTITLED:
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND/OR UPDATING THE VAN BUREN
MUNICIPAL CODE FOR THE PURPOSE OF ACCURATELY PUBLISHING
THE ONLINE AND CODIFIED HARDCOPY VERISION OF THE VAN BUREN
MUNICIPAL CODE AND OTHER EDITORIAL AMENDMENTS
WHEREAS, the City of Van Buren has adopted a Code of Ordinances that has been reviewed,
in detail, by all Department Heads, Mayor and City Clerk-Treasurer and has been
found to have errors or errant data in various titles, chapters, sections and
subsections which are grammatically incorrect, inaccurate or obsolete altogether;
and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Van Buren desires to have the most up-to-date
information in the Code of Ordinances (Van Buren Municipal Code).
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT ORDAINED AND ENACTED BY THE CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VAN BUREN,ARKANSAS THAT:
SECTION 1: The Van Buren Municipal Code will be updated as noted in Exhibit "A", attached
hereto. Such updates could include grammatical corrections, outdated policies and
procedures, deletion of obsolete titles, sections or subsections.
SECTION 2: The City of Van Buren Department Heads, Mayor and City Clerk-Treasurer will
review the Code of Ordinances on an annual basis to ensure timely updates are
made.
SECTION 3: The various provisions and parts of this Ordinance are hereby declared to be
severable, and, if any section or part of a section, or any provision or part of a
provision herein,is declared to be unconstitutional,inappropriate,or invalid by any
court of competent jurisdiction, such holding shall not invalidate or affect the
remainder of this Ordinance and to that extent the provisions hereto are declared
to be severable.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF,the City of Van Bilren,Arkansas,by its City Council, did
pass, approve, and adopt, by a vote of 5 for and against,the foregoing Ordinance at its
regular meeting held on the 24th day of February 2025.

Exhibit A is for the purpose of updating the Van Buren Code of Ordinances(Municipal Code Book)
to reflect the most accurate information the following updates will be made:

programs in Arkansas are likely non-compliant with the Arkansas Constitution Article 12

• Various grammatical errors will be corrected

• 11.04.01 Applications cost of project will be updated from$20,000 to$50,000.
• 11.04.05 Plot plan filed will be updated to include"drawn by registered surveyor" and
Ordinance 29-1978 will be added for reference
• 11.12.04 Applications, permits will be updated to current values and will include Ordinance
18-1991 as reference
• 11.16.13 Adoption by reference for Family Dwelling Code will be deleted
• Chapter 11.32 Building Code
o Sections 11.31.01 —11.31.10 will be updated to include Arkansas Fire Prevention
Code as noted from 2020 or 2021.
• 11.32.08 Fees
o Items D, E and F will be updated to reflect current rates as of September 2024
