AUGUST 2024 REGULAR MEETING City of Van Buren, Arkansas Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the City Council Monday, August 26, 2024 Van Buren Municipal Complex CALL TO ORDER 5:30M The regular meeting of the Van Buren City Council was called to order by Mayor Joseph P. Hurst at 5:30PM. Police Chief Jonathan Wear led the invocation. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mayor Joseph P. Hurst. ROLL CALL 5:31PM Present: Council Member Madison Simmons, Council Member Shannon Newerth-Henson, Council Member Tyler Wood, Council Member Tonia Fry, Mayor Joseph P. Hurst, City Clerk- Treasurer Shawnna Reynolds Absent: City Attorney Jacob Howell PRESENTATIONS - AWARDS Retiring Police Lieutenant Randy S. Allen was honored during the presentation of his side arm. CONSENT AGENDA 5:32PM After determining there were no reported objections or unfinished business, Council Member Tyler Wood moved to approve the consent agenda which consisted of: o Minutes from July 22, 2024, City Council Meeting o Street Closing— King School 5K Run o Resolution 08-01-2024 Fixed Asset FD1-355 — Fire Dept o Financial Statements o Department Reports Motion was seconded by Council Member Tonia Fry. All in favor. None opposed. Consent Agenda approved. Mayor Hurst declared the consent agenda passed. NEW BUSINESS 5:32PM Resolution 08-02-2024 Lieutenant Randy S. Allen Retirement City Clerk-Treasurer Shawnna Reynolds read the resolution in its entirety. Mayor Joe Hurst and the City Council honored the retiring Lieutenant Randy S. Allen. Lieutenant Allen was commended for his 23 years, 4 months and 13 days of police service. He was awarded his service side arm via Resolution 08-02-2024. It was a Glock G45, Generation 5, 9mm Caliber pistol, serial number BLBF173. Motion to adopt Resolution 08-02-2024 was made by Council Member Tyler Wood. Seconded by Council Member Matt Dodson. Roll Call. All in favor. None opposed. Resolution 08-02-2024 Lieutenant Randy S. Allen Retirement is adopted with six yeas and zero nays. Mayor Hurst declared the resolution passed and signed same in open council, duly attested by City Clerk-Treasurer Reynolds. MISCELLANOUS and GENERAL DISCUSSION 5:34PM Mayor Joe Hurst advised the City Council and the public in attendance and via recording that the City of Van Buren just completed a two-year legislative audit for the years 2022 and 2023 and there were zero findings. If there had been any supplemental findings a plan to correct the issues would be needed but since there were no findings this served as an announcement regarding the audit. He advised the council that this will now go before the legislative committee, and we should receive our official copy by October. Mayor Hurst complimented all Department Head's and the City Clerk-Treasurer's office on this achievement. There was no further miscellaneous and general discussion. ADJOURNMENT 5:36PM Council Member Shannon Newerth-Henson made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Council Member Madison Simmons. The motion passed 6-0.
