HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION MINUTES
July 11, 2024
1. Call to Order/Roll Call.'I'he Van Buren Historic District Commission held its monthly meeting on Thursday, July 11,
2024, at 5:30 p.m. nt the City Council Chambers at the Municipal Complex. Commission members present: Chairman Vickie
Davis, Vice -Chairman Derald Porter, Cathy Gifford, Paul Gibson, Daniel Perry, and Commission Secretary Jennifer Willoughby.
Commissioner Lindsay Dodson was absent.
2. Approval of
Minutes from June 13, 2024.
A
motion to
approve was
made by Commissioner Paul Gibson and
seconded by Commissioner Daniel Perry. The motion
was
approved
unanimously.
3. COA #10-2024-601 Main —The Potter's Gem/Ginny Elliott; Requesting Approval For Sign Design. The sign
design will use colors chosen from the Historic Colors of America chart; the color for the glass door design is Jewett White. The
fonts used for the lettering will be Times Roman and Caslon Old Style. There will be another sign added to the front of the
building at a later date. That sign will be flat mounted, TxT in size, and will use the same colors and fonts as the door signage.
A motion was made by Commissioner Paul Gibson and seconded by Commissioner Daniel Perry that nothing in the proposed
design significantly affects the adjacent downtown buildings. A motion to approve the Sign Design (10.25) was made by
Commissioner Cathy Gifford and seconded by Commissioner Paul Gibson. Both motions were approved unanimously.
4. Public Hearing —Vote On Recommendation Of Updated Historic District Design Guidelines —The Lakota
Group. A motion to approve recommendation to City Council was made by Commissioner Derald Porter and seconded by
Commissioner Paul Gibson. The motion was approved unanimously.
5.
Old/New Business
—Discussed progress being made with
the Fairview Cemetery historic headstone assessment
survey
CLG grant.
6. Adjourn. A motion to adjourn was made by Commissioner Paul Gibson and seconded by Commissioner Derald Poxtex.
