RES NO 05-01-1996 CITY OF VAN BUREN, ARKANSAS 0 RESOLUTION NO. S j -1996 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING TEMPORARY MODIFICATIONS OF THE ZONING REGULATIONS OF THE CITY OF VAN BUREN, ARKANSAS. WHEREAS, Due to the tornado damage suffered within the City of Van Buren on April 21, 1996, many of the City's citizens sustained severe damage to, or loss of, their homes; and, WHEREAS, In their efforts to repair or rebuild their homes there are certain existing zoning regulations which, if strictly enforced, would greatly hinder their efforts and would cause unnecessary hardship upon the tornado victims; and, WHEREAS, The City Planning Commission, meeting on May 7, 1996, approved recommendations that certain temporary modifications be made to, and allowed under, the City's existing zoning regulations; and, WHEREAS, The proposed temporary modifications to the City's zoning regulations would not affect the City's ability to regulate the proper repair or erection of structures within the City and also is not of a general and permanent nature. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VAN BUREN, ARKANSAS: SECTION 1: That the City issue permits to storm victims to allow them to place mobile homes, travel trailers and other livable structures, and structures for storage, upon their property, regardless of its zoning classification. Said permit shall be for a period of no more than six (6) months, and upon the request of the storm victim, may be extended for an additional six (6) months, if it is determined by the Building Inspector that such an extension is justified. SECTION 2: That for storm victims requesting a variance, the time required for posting a sign and publishing notice of the variance request be reduced to five (5) days.
