HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION MINUTES
May 09, 2024
1. Call to Order/Roll Call. The Van Buren Historic Disnrict Commission held its monthly meeting on Thursday, May
0% 2024, at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at the Municipal Complex. Commission members present: Chairman Vickie
Davis, Vice -Chairman Derald Porter, Lindsay Dodson, Paul Gibson, and Cominission Secretary Jennifer Willoughby.
2. Approval of Minutes from April 11, 2024. A motion to approve was. made by Commissioner Paul Gihson and
seconded by Commissioner Derald Porter. The motion was approved unanimously.
3. COA #6-2024-606 Main —Anthony Coxxero; Requesting To Convert Back Window Into ADoor, Add Balcony
With Stairs To The Backside, Window Signage, And Facade Paint. The vinyl window Fisher's logo sign design will be in
the color Jewett White from the Historic Colors of America chart. The facade paint colors were chosen from the I Estoric Colors
of America chart. A window on the backside of the building will be made into a door. A new platform/balcony and stairs will
be added under that new door. The new balcony with stairs will be shared with the neighboring building. The stairs will be flat
black metal. A motion was made by Commissioner Derald Porter and seconded by Commissioner Paul Gibson that nothing in
the proposed design significantly affects the adjacent downtown buildings. A motion to approve Sign Design (10.25), Color
Facade (10.5), Brick Masonry (10.6), and Balcony (10.4) was made by Commissioner Paul Gibson and seconded by
Commissioner Derald Porter. Both motions were approved unanimously.
4. COA #7-2024-522 Main —Backwoods Book Co/Harold Smith; Requesting Approval For Window Signage.
The vinyl window signage will be a circle logo using the color Jewett White and will use Broker font on the lettering. A motion
was made by Commissioner Lindsay Dodson and seconded by Commissioner Paul Gibson that nothing in the proposed design
significantly affects the adjacent downtown buildings. A motion to approve the Sign Design (10.25) was made by Commissioner
Derald Porter and seconded by Commissioner Lindsay Dodson. Both motions were approved unanimously.
5. COA #5-2024-620 Main —The Vault/Roger Key; Requesting New Awnings. The request is to .add matching
black material awn ngs along the on to match the rest of the awn ngs for The Vault Restaurant. A motion was made by
Commissioner Paul Gibson and seconded by Commissioner Lindsay Dodson that nothing in the proposed design significantly
affects the adjacent downtown buildings. A motion to approve the Awnings (10.3) was made by Commissioner Paul Gibson
and seconded by Commissioner Derald Potter. Both motions were approved unanimously.
6. Old/New Business—
Commissioner
Paul Gibson stated
that he had heard complaints about banners downtown that
have been on display past the
30-day allowed
time; in particulu
the sponsor banner on the 'I'OTMA stage. One solution
discussed is to make the TOTMA stage banner
a permanent sign instead
of a temporary banner.
Adjourn. A motion to adjourn was made by Commissioner Paul Gibson and seconded by Commissioner Derald Porter.
The motion was approve unanhmously.
