PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES
March O5, 2024
1.
Call To
Order.
The Van
Buren Planning Commission held its monthly
meeting on Tuesday, March O5,
2024,
at 5:30 P.M.
The
meeting was held at the Van Buren Municipal Complex
in the City
Council Chambers.
2. Roll Call. The following Commissioners were present: Chairman Mark Evans, Vice -Chairman Philip
Bagby, Jared Clark, Missy Hefner, Jason Myers,. Mason Shirey, Jay White, and Nathan Wilson. Cornmissioner
Tiffany Webster was absent. City Staff present were: Planning Director Wally Bailey, Commission Secretary
Jennifer Willoughby, and City Inspector David Martin.

Approval Of Minutes From January
02, 2024. A motion
to approve was made by Commissioner Jason
Myers
and seconded
by Commissioner Mason
Shirey. The
motion
was approved unanimously.
4. Discussion About Building Permit and Sidewalk Construction Fees. Before making any
recommended changes to the building permit fees Planning Director Wally Bailey felt it necessary to hold a study
session with the Commission to get their input and direction. Mr. Bailey provided the Commission with survey
information on building permit fees from neighboring cities to compare with Van Buren's permit fees. During
the discussion some key points agreed upon were: the need to raise the fees but also make separate fee amounts
for Commercial versus Residential building permits, to keep the per square foot fee calculation, and raise the $20
inspection fees to $75-$100. The sidewalk assessment fee, which is cwrently included in the building permit fees,
and the payment in lieu of sidewalk construction fee was also discussed. More meetings/public hearings will be
held before the final recommendation to City Council is made.
5. Old/New Business. Mr. Bailey informed the Commission that the Pointer Ridge Subdivision Preliminary
Plat and the Legacy Cottages Final Plat may be on the agenda for next month.
6. Adjourn. A motion to adjourn was made by Commissioner Nathan Wilson and seconded by
Commissioner Jason Myers. The motion was approved unanimously.
