HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION MINUTES
December 14, 2023
1. Call to Order/Roll Call. The Van Buren Historic Dishict Commission held its monthly meeting on Thursday,
December 14, 2023) at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at the Municipal Complex. Commission members present:
Chairman Vickie Davis, Vice -Chairman Derald Porter, Lindsay Dodson, Paul Gibson, Cathy Gifford, Andy Knox, and
Commission Secretary Jennifer Willoughby.
2. Approval of Minutes from October 12, 2023.
A motion
to approve was
made by
Commissioner Andy Knox and
seconded by Commissioner Paul Gibson. The motion was
approved
unanimously.
3. COA #9-2023-721-723 Main —Paul Gibson; Requesting To Install &Paint Txim Around Windows/Doors
and Build New Windows In The Back. The paint colors were chosen from the new Historic Colors of America chart. The
color being used to paint over the existing painted fa4ade is Quincy Granite. The paint color being used for the trim around
windows/doors and downstairs vents will be Polished Pewter. A motion was made by Commissioner Cathy Gifford and
seconded by Commissioner Derald Porter that nothing in the proposed design significantly affects the adjacent downtown
buildings. A motion to approve installation of new windows/trim (10.31) and to approve the fagade/trim colors (10.8) was
made by Commissioner Cathy Gifford and seconded by Commissioner Derald Porter. Both motions were approved
unanimously.
4. COA #10-2023-614 Main —Daniel Perty/Attic Treasures; Requesting To Paint Storefront Fagade, Cornices,
and Front/Back Windows & Door Trim. The paint colors for the design were chosen from the new Historic Colors of
America Chart. The color being used to paint over the existing painted brick fa4ade is Sandy Bluff. The color being used for the
window trim and cornices will be Phelps Putty. The extra trim along the storefront will be painted using Shaker Red and
Cummings Oak. Mr. Perry mentioned he would like to repair the canopy roof of his building. Chairman Vickie Davis stated
that repairing using same materials is allowed. A motion was made by Commissioner Lindsay Dodson and seconded by
Commissioner Andy Knox that nothing in the proposed design significantly affects the adjacent downtown buildings. A motion
to approve the fagade, trim, and cornices colors (10.8) was made by Commissioner Cathy Gifford and seconded by
Commissioner Paul Gibson. Both motions were approved unanimously.
