HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION MINUTES
October 12, 2023
1. Call to Order/Roll Call. The Van Buren Hsto c Dist ct Commssion held its monthly mee ng ou Thursday,
October 12, 2023, at 5:30 p.m. in the City Courted Chambers at the Municipal Complex. Commission members present: Vice -
Chairman Derald Porter, Lindsay Dodson, Paul Gibson, Andy Knox, and Commission Secretary Jetnifer Willoughby.
2. Approval of Minutes from September 14, 2023. A motion was made by Commissioner Paul Gibson and seconded
by Commissioner Lindsay Dodson to approve the minutes. The motion was approved unanimously.
3. COA #7-2023-715-719 Main —The Meat Station &Baked On Main/Sureshot Properties; Request Fox
Signage. Stuart Rowland submitted a COA for approval of vinyl logo signs to be placed on the front windows and doors as
well as metal sign lettering to be placed on front facade above porch awnings. The paint colors for the designs were chosen from
the Historic Colors of America chart. The colors being used for the sign designs are Flat Black, Jewett White, York Bisque,
Georgian Yellow, and Quincy Granite; the fonts used will be Engravers, Angelo, Times Roman, Plana Script, and Machine Bold.
A motion was made by Commissioner Lindsay Dodson and seconded by Commissioner Paul Gibson that nothing in the
proposed design significantly affects the adjacent downtown buildings. A motion to approve the sign design (10.25 Signage)
was made by Commissioner Lindsay Dodson and seconded by Commissioner Paul Gibson. Both motions were approved
unanimously.
4. COA #8-2023-61G Main —City BoutiqueJNikki Routt; Request For Signage &Paint Fagade. Nildd Routt
submitted a COA for approval of vinyl logo door signage, vinyl window lettering, and a 2x2 hanging sign. The paint colors for
the designs were chosen from the Historic Colors of America Chart. The colors being used for sign designs are Flat Black,
Polished Pewter, Mountain Laurel, and Jewett White. The font being used will be Helvetica Medium. Also included in the COA
was a request for changing the color of the painted fagade. The colors being used for the fagade design are Sayward Pine on the
bottom part of the building that currently has existing painted bricks and Quincy Granite on the ornate metal trim on top of the
building and over the windows. A motion was made by Commissioner Andy Knox and seconded by Commissioner Paul Gibson
that nothing in the proposed designs significantly affects the adjacent downtown buildings. A motion to approve the sign design
(10.25) and the paint fagade (10.8) was made by Commissioner Andy Knox and seconded by Commissioner Paul Gibson. Both
motions were approved unanimously.
5. Old/New Business —Held a brief discussion about the upcomhng stakeholder meeting with The Lakota Group to
discuss updating the Historic District Design Guidelines, discussed the upcoming CLG Grant, and discussed doing an HPRG
Grant for Fairview Cemetery.
6. Adjourn. A motion to adjourn was made by Commissioner Paul Gibson and seconded by Commissioner Lindsay
Dodson. The motion was approved unanimously.
